CASTELLO

Il più grande sestiere della città, prende il nome dalla fortezza dell' VIII secolo che un tempo si innalzava là dove ora c'è S.Pietro, l'isola che per secoli fu il centro religioso della città e la cui chiesa, dal 1451 al 1807, fu la cattedrale cittadina. Il cuore industriale della Repubblica veneziana si trovava qui e più precisamente nell' Arsenale, dove venivano costruite le navi della flotta. Il quartiere è calmo, piacevole, in molte parti da scoprire. All'interno dei suoi giardini si svolge ogni due anni la Biennale d' Arte moderna.

CASTELLO

The largest "sestiere" in Venice, takes its name from the eight century fortress that stood there, where today we can find S.Pietro, the island that for centuries was the religious heart of the city and whose church, between 1451 and 1807, was the city's cathedral. The industrial heart of the Venetian Republic was here, exactly at Arsenale, where the fleet's ships were constructed. The area is calm and pleasant, with much to be discovered. Every two years the "Biennale d'Arte moderna" exhibition takes place in the sestiere's gardens.
