| The largest "sestiere" in Venice, takes its name from the eight century fortress that stood there, where today we can find S.Pietro, the island that for centuries was the religious heart of the city and whose church, between 1451 and 1807, was the city's cathedral. The industrial heart of the Venetian Republic was here, exactly at Arsenale, where the fleet's ships were constructed. The area is calm and pleasant, with much to be discovered. Every two years the "Biennale d'Arte moderna" exhibition takes place in the sestiere's gardens. |
