| We are in the northerly side of the city, the first side you can see when you arrive by train or by car. The name is thought to derive either from the word "canne", meaning 'reeds' in Italian, which grew there many centuries ago, or from "Canal Regio" the ancient name given to the Cannaregio canal which was the way of entering Venice, before the city was linked to the mainland by train. Nearly a third of Venice's population lives at Cannaregio; therefore it's a good place to be visited, in order to see and "live" the city with its rhythms and customs. Don't forget to visit the Ca' D'Oro and the oldest "ghetto" in the world. |
